TEAM ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’

Welcome to Key Stage 1 (Infants)

This half term the Infants have had great fun with our topic ‘Pets’. Indeed some serious vetinary work has taken place in our role play area!

For Show and Tell the children had the opportunity to bring in their pets from home and to tell the rest of the class all about them. All the pets were very well behaved and we learnt a lot about the food, exercise and care they needed. Many thanks to the parents who came along to supervise the pets!

We also walked up the road for an afternoon visit to our neighbours the Cats Protection League. A lovely lady called Sally showed us round and helped the children to understand the wonderful work they do. All the children had their favourite cat and although we didn’t return with one, all the children did get to take home a lovely goodie bag.

In class we have used our topic as a stimulus for some wonderful non-fiction writing on dogs as well as some fantastic stories based on the Lauren Child book ‘That Pesky Rat’ and the Mick Inkpen story ‘The Great Pet Sale’.

Make sure you come into our classroom to take a look at our wonderful ‘Cats’ display where you can see some colourful cat paintings, some poetry and our amazing sewing!

Our Science work this term has focussed on Animals and we have been finding different ways of classifying them and are starting to be confident in our use of such terms as mammal, reptile, carnivore and herbivore amongst others!

In Geography we have used atlases and maps to look at the continents of the world and find out about some dog breeds that have originated from them.

In maths we have continued to work hard on the four rules of number as well as some work on weight, length and capacity.

Finally a great, big ‘WELL DONE’ to the wonderful Year 2s for working so hard during their KS1 SATs and well done to all my lovely class for a great half term’s work and fun. You’re the best!
