What Do Our Pupils Think?
What makes Long Lane a good place to learn?
We want to tell you about the parts of our amazing school, Long Lane. We think Long Lane is an excellent place to learn and everyone is very friendly.
All our teachers are enthusiastic about our learning which helps us to believe more in our selves. Our cook Lynn is fantastic at cooking and we enjoy her lovely meals every day.
Long Lane pupils are all very welcoming, just like one big family! The older children, in Years 6 and 5 help the younger ones. For example, at lunch times the Year 6 carry out peer mentoring for the infants and help to improve their reading even more. We have a School Council, which has a meeting every Friday to discuss ways to improve our school even more and to raise money for charities such as:
Macmillan Cancer support
Red Nose day
Jeans for Genes day
Children in Need day
Christmas Jumper day for Save the Children
School trips are one of the best parts for us. We have lots of trips and most of them increase our learning at school. Some of the trips we have really enjoyed are:
Magna Science Park
The pantomime (this year it was Beauty and The Beast)
East Midlands Airport for the Infants (they really enjoyed it)
We take part in many events that take place at QEGS such as Dance, football, hockey and basketball.
Our Junior residential
Every year the juniors get the chance to go on a residential called Kingswood for 3 days and 2 nights, which usually falls around June and July. It is one of the key focuses we look forward to. It acts as a treat for all the hard work we`ve put in during the terms. There are many fun indoor and outdoor activities that we never get tired of and there is plenty of fun for everyone.
A hockey lesson takes place every Monday after school for the juniors and it is great fun! Also we have a brilliant football team which came 3rd in the tournament at Burton Albion.
Friends of Long Lane
FOLL organises our wonderful Chocolate Bingo and Easter activities, not forgetting countless enjoyable summer fairs.
December we celebrated Christmas by having fun parties and discos, something we really enjoyed with our friends! Father Christmas came and gave us all a present which is one of the most amazing things that happens all year round. We played lots of games which were really incredible such as the Chocolate Game (where you have to try and open the chocolate bar and eat a piece of the chocolate before somebody else rolls a six).
We hope that you understand how much we`re really proud of our small school. We believe that “A smaller school means better education!” Everyone is unique in a different way and visitors and new pupils are always welcome here at Long Lane School.
